春よ来い – Spring has come

This is a beautiful Japanese song written and performed by Yumi Matsutoya  (松任谷 由実).

I have wanted to have an English translation but it seems that the Japanese is rather challenging to translate. If you are a native Japanese speaker, would you like to have a go at translating into English? Otherwise, sit back, relax and enjoy the music!

Chinese speakers (and readers) might get a glimpse of understanding from the Kanji characters. The lyrics are reproduced from an excellent web site: Per Jensen’s Yumi Matsutoya:

Romaji lyrics (from Per Jensen’s web site)

Awaki hikari tatsu niwakaame
Itoshi omokage no jin’chouge
Afururu namida no tsubomi kara
Hitotsu hitotsu kaori hajimeru

Sore wa sore wa sora wo koete
Yagate yagate mukae ni kuru

Haru yo tooki haru yo mabuta tojireba soko ni
Ai wo kureshi kimi no natsukashiki koe ga suru

Kimi ni azukeshi waga kokoro wa
Ima demo hen’ji wo matte imasu
Dore hodo tsukihi ga nagarete mo
Zutto zutto matte imasu

Sore wa sore wa asu wo koete
Itsuka itsuka kitto todoku

Haru yo mada minu haru mayoi tachidomaru toki
Yume wo kureshi kimi no manazashi ga kata wo daku

Yume yo asaki yume yo watashi wa koko ni imasu
Kimi wo omoinagara hitori aruite imasu
Nagaruru ame no gotoku nagaruru hana no gotoku

Haru yo tooki haru yo mabuta tojireba soko ni
Ai wo kureshi kimi no natsukashiki koe ga suru

Haru yo mada minu haru mayoi tachidomaru toki

English Translation

These lyrics are from misachan’s web site.

In the pale light of a rain shower
From the beloved faces of the winter daphnes
Buds of tears overflow as
One by one, their fragrance emerges

And that, that, crosses the skies
Soon, soon, they’ll come for me

Spring, far-off spring, as I close my eyes, right there
You, who has given me love, I hear your nostalgic voice

My heart, which I’ve entrusted to you
Is still waiting for your answer
No matter how much time passes
Always, always, I will wait

And that, that, crosses tomorrow
Someday, someday, it’ll definitely reach you

Spring, as-yet-unseen spring, whenever I feel lost and stop
You, who has given me dreams, your gaze embraces me

Dreams, superficial dreams, I am here
Thinking of you, I walk alone
Like the falling rain, like the falling petals

Spring, far-off spring, as I close my eyes, right there
You, who has given me love, I hear your nostalgic voice

Spring, as-yet-unseen spring, whenever I feel lost and stop
You, who has given me dreams, your gaze embraces me
