My top 10 Comedy Movies

Comedy is a very personal thing. You probably have different ideas to me of what is funny. This post is a response to a discussion I had with a friend on our favourite comedy movies. I included two iconic Australian films (Crocodile Dundee and The Castle), British films by Monty Python and Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean), and American films by Robin Williams, Mel Brooks and Mike Myers.

Australian

Crocodile Dundee (Paul Hogan) – 1983

The Castle (directed by Rob Sitch) – 1997

British

Life of Brian – Monty Python (1979)

Mr Bean’s Holiday – Rowan Atkinson (2007)

American

Good Morning Vietnam – Robin Williams (1987)

Mrs Doubtfire – Robin Williams (1993)

Blazing Saddles – Mel Brooks (1974)

Parody of Western movies.

Spaceballs – Mel Brooks (1987)
Parody of Star Wars, Alien and Planet of the Apes.

Flying High (Airplane) (1980)

Wonderful parody of disaster movies.

Waynes World – Mike Myers (1992)

  1. I would have to add Mel Brooks’ masterpiece “Young Frankenstein” to this list; not to replace anything, but I guess it’d have to be added as number 11! Love all the rest too (and have most on DVD or Apple download).

    1. I agree that Young Frankestein could be on the list, along with Robin Hood, Men in Tights as well as History of the World, Part 1.
